Wondering what a good rate for a 10 key test is? The minimum data entry rate required by most employers is at least 10,000 keystrokes and an accuracy rate of around 99%. You can have an accuracy rate of 98 to 97% as long as your keystrokes are 12,000 to 15,000 keystrokes.

If you can score 15,000 on this 10 key test and have a high accuracy rate, you should have no problem qualifying for the job; of course, every employer has different standards, so verify the requirements before you set your target.

Once you select the appropriate typing lesson you’ll see a screen with hands, numbers and text. As you work, the typing tutorial will present you with typing status, such as Time, Speed and Accuracy.

You’ll also notice that the tutorial will display messages at the bottom of the screen on your progress during the lesson.

As you progress in the tutorial, you’ll notice that the digits of the hand will light up in response to the typed key. This helps you to identify where on the keyboard you are typing.

At the end of the typing tutorial or lesson, you’ll be presented with very detailed statistics that you can either review or cut and paste for documentation. WPM, CPM and error during the typing tutor will be presented.

Typing Tutorial – Lesson Tips and Tricks

Try to make it through the typing tutorial without looking at the keys. Use quick strokes to strike and release the key rather than hard ‘presses’; lightly press the key and move on to the next one in the tutorial.

Sit erect during the typing tutorial with your feet firmly planted on the floor. Improper posture not only makes you tired, but leads to errors and typing tutor results.

Eyestrain can occur when fonts are too small, reflections appear in the monitor or your surroundings are too dark. The room where you’re using the typing tutor should be well lit and text should be sized so that the typing tutorial is easy on the eyes.

Many poor results during the typing tutorial occur because the finger drifts away from their position. The program will show you where your fingers should be during the test so try to train yourself to remember those positions. After enough tutorials, this will become a habit.

Many people who do poorly on the typing tutor notice that the bottom row of keys have a high error rate. This is because your chair is too close to the keyboard; instead, try moving the chair back, raise your wrists and revisit the typing tutorial.

Make sure that your wrists are not resting against the keyboard or desk during the tutorial! Keep your fingers on the home row keys and your hands slanted upward at the same angle as the keyboard.

If you get headaches during the typing tutorial, you may need to have your vision checked. It’s amazing what a good pair of glasses can do!

The single most important tutorial tip is to enjoy! Take your time, relax and enjoy the online tutor.

Today employers use the term “typing skills” but they’re really talking about “keyboarding” skills. While the typewriter and the computer keyboards are closely related, they’re not identical twins. If you’re a pro on the IBM Selectric, but you’re a bit dusty on the PC keyboard, your fingers are going to trip across each other looking for keys which no longer exist or aren’t where they used to be.

Even though there is a whole generation of computer literate people who have never even seen a typewriter in the wild much less used one, today’s jobs require computer keyboard skills which demand typing speed and accuracy.

Being fast on the keyboard is of no value if what you type is not accurate. Sure, you can be very accurate if you type with two fingers and stare at the keyboard, but you already know that this will cost you speed.

Speed and accuracy can only come from training your fingers to know the exact location of every key on the keyboard. Typing Speed and accuracy suffers when you have to remove your eyes from what you are reading to hunt and peck your way through the next sentence.

Have you ever seen someone who has mastered the keyboard when they are typing a document? It’s like watching a grand pianist playing in concert. Fingers fly and words almost scream across the screen. How do they get this good? Practice. How can you get this good? The same way.

Our typing test will help you increase your typing speed and accuracy. You’ll not only improve your speed, but you’ll receive a report detailing your results. Best of all, you’ll be prepared for the typing test that’s given to most applicants as part of the interview process.

As you start the test, two boxes will appear. The top box is the actual text used for the typing test while the bottom box displays the text you are typing.

Once you start, you’ll notice a small pause as the system prepares the test and then the first word will appear in blue. As soon as you start typing, the system begins recording your keystrokes and highlights any typing errors you may make in red.

Once a typing error has been marked red, you can not change it. Errors are marked in red only after you press the space bar, so you can correct a letter, but not a word. True typing tests account for accuracy by not allowing words to be corrected, and this online typing test is held to the same standard.

You’ll also notice a timer located to the right that counts up to the time you have allotted for the typing test.

Results of the Online Typing Test

Results are displayed immediately after the test is completed. You’ll notice the option to enter email and contact information, many organizations use this free online typing test as a way to screen applicants and in such cases, verified results are sent to the personnel department.

Although this typing test is limited to one minute, we found that most visitors do not choose greater test durations when given the choice.

I now have a great site, tons of visitors and large monthly checks from Google. Typing for money seems like a dream, but it is real and being done by many! WordPress is free, Adsense is free and the server (something like 1and1, hostgator, bluehost, etc) should only run you a max of $10 per month.
